Should we, society as a whole, hold ourselves in someway accountable?
Just thinking about the tragic massacre in the US, I can’t help but wonder if the shooter had had access to efficient mental health services that this may have been avoided. It’s all too easy to blame the shooter and accept no responsibility for what has happened, but society in my book, needs to step back and look at the bigger picture, if this guy was mentally ill, which seems to be the case, why did he not have access to adequate help? Or if it was because his girlfriend cheated, which is what the news is saying, then maybe we need to look at infidelity and it’s damage to society? Parents should teach their children better and people should stop burying their heads in the sand. Things are only going to get worse from here on in if we don’t get proactive as people.
I’m sure there may be some systemic elements to it, but the bottom line is that one person might a horrible decision that resulted in many deaths, so it has to fall on that one person.
